Why take online classes?
Convenience to the Student
Perhaps the most-often cited reasons for enrolling in an online class is "convenience." The classes are designed such that students listen to the lectures and watch the PowerPoint presentations online. This can be done any time of the day or night! If you are a night owl, prefer to sleep in rather than attending 8:00 AM classes, or just prefer to have the ability to choose when you want to watch the lectures, then online courses are for you.
Quality of the Classes
The online courses offered by the Sport Management program are of the highest quality. The same material that is offered in the classroom setting is also available in our online courses. The courses are taught by leading professors in the field and are developed with the intent of providing the student with cutting edge information concerning the management of organizations for sport and physical activity.
Moving toward Graduation
Enrolling in online courses oftentimes allows students to take more hours in the semester than they would if the courses were offered in the classroom. This is because of the latitude that students have as to when they view the online material.
In addition, many of the classes are offered during the Winter-Mester and May-Mester sessions. These are 2-week semesters in which courses are offered in an intensive fashion. For courses offered in the classroom, students might meet for 4 hours a day. In the online sections of the class, the same amount of material is covered; however, students are able to listen to the lectures when they want to during that 2-week span. Therefore, enrolling in Winter- and May-Mester online courses allows the students to gain up to 6 hours of credit before the longer semester even starts. This allows students to make real progress toward earning the hours needed for graduation.
Meeting Core Requirements
Some of the online courses are also approved to meet core curriculum requirements. For example, KINE 489: Diversity in Sport Organizations, has been approved as a Social and Behavioral Science elective. Therefore, students can take this course to learn about the sport industry and satisfy university requirements concerning core courses that must be taken.
